Journey Through Time

Varied Thrush (male)

I've been wanting to get a photo of the varied thrush, and this one landed practically at my feet today. There was bird activity outside and I stepped out to the back, and this one just landed in the grass and I quickly snapped one photo before he took off. This is another one of our backyard birds and it is another ground feeding bird. It eats insects, spiders, earthworms, snails, weed seeds, acorns and various wild berries. It is uncommon at feeders, but may eat raisins, fruit, or suet. It is related to the American Robin and often seen together, or so I think anyway. Robins, however, are all over North America, but varied thrush is found in northern California up to southern British Columbia, mainly staying all year west of the Cascade mountain range but in the summer venturing as far north as northern Alaska. Rarely, they will travel to the East Coast. If they can get a nice discount in Atlantic City, I presume. And they have probably heard about Debbie's Bistro. Go here to see Debbie's Famous Bird Bistro. Anyway, aren't bird books grand?

Mixed bag today of clouds, sprinkles and sun breaks. Better go do something now that this is in Blipland.

Have a good weekend Blippers. See ya later.
