The Arrostocini King

We're in Italy for the weekend staying with friends. Abruzzo is full of sheep and a local delicacy is Arrostocini, which is tiny skewers of mutton. You barbecue them on a specially designed barbecue into which the skewers fit perfectly, as you can see being elegantly demonstrated by our very kind host.

Lovely hot day on the beach today at Silvi. There's a sort of sandbank just 10 yards or so offshore, so it's shallow and safe for quite a way (reassuring when you're trying to keep track of a bunch of 1-7 year olds!) This was followed by a relaxing lunch at the beach restaurant and a bit more of a paddle before home. Everyone had too much sun, the kids ate loads and went to bed nicely leaving us to stuff our faces with mutton and question the meaning of life over some rather fine Montepulciano. All in all, a lovely day.
