A place in time

Well, only a short walk today - still feeling pretty rough.

This cutting joins one of the main roads in town, and runs alongside the cricket ground before the footbridge takes it over the river. The grease-encased chimney of the trucker's cafe looks grim, but the cooking smells are divine...I ought to treat myself to a hearty lunch there sometime.

But the alleyway was teeming with wildlife when I paused to listen, with birds singing in the barren trees overhead and a pair of squirrels scampering from branch to branch.

That's often the trouble these days, isn't it? No-one stops to listen any more...
