A place in time

Chaos

And it certainly was chaos at work today...

All was going well until the power went down across the building mid-morning. It turned out that one of the main cables providing electricity to the building MELTED (due in no small part to the many electric heaters that people keep using, when they just ought to wear proper clothing for January for heaven's sake!). Since nothing was working - e-mails, servers, PCs, even the kettles to make warm drinks to relieve the tedium, most staff were sent home and told to take the time off as half a day's leave.

Anyway, while the power was down and most people were away from their desks, these chaps took the opportunity to remove some of the partitioning that had been planned to come down to expand the open-plan office area.

So after a long lunchbreak, 3 of us returned to the office to pick up our cars to find instead that the melted cable had been repaired and things were gradually being jump-started back into life...no afternoon off for us! We went in and manned the phones until all systems were working again. Still, at least we were accompanied by the sound of banging/sawing/drilling as we explained to all callers that we had a bit of a problem.

So, I'm kind of glad today is over - it was chaotic and dusty and very noisy - yet we still have to look forward to a further section of wall being removed tomorrow. Can't wait!
