Five Sisters

The Five Sisters of Kintail covered with fresh snow were photographed today from the A890 just above Auchtertyre. This is a road that has been on the news of late due to it being closed to traffic as a result of a large roch fall onto it.

I understood today that the road is due to re-open by the 3rd of March during the day only. For approximately a fortnight after this work will continue with the road closed during the night only. However I also gather that there is a geological fault upon the hill above the road at the point of the fall so a recurrence of the problem is quite likely.

The authority is looking into the possibility of constructing a safety tunnel over both the road and the rail however the cost is massive. (Probably less than building a new road) Another possibility would be a bridge over the entrance to Loch Carron at Strome.
