Wegerzyn Gardens

Saturday
Roger and I drove up to Dayton to visit Wegerzyn Gardens - situated by the Stillwater River . A lovely series of 'rooms' in different styles. A great selection of day-lilies - all different colors - the bees and butterflies were very busy. There was a great childrens garden - a lovely lily pond, and other colorful plants, as well as water and an area of sand that kids could play in. Although it was a mainly overcast day, it was still pretty hot and humid, so it was nice to get back and go for a swim to cool off and get some exercise.

This evening was our neighbor's annual champagne tasting. R. has a few vines growing on the side of his garage and makes his own champagne and each year he and his wife have this champagne tasting party, matching his champagne against about 8 or 9 other champagnes or sparkling wines. R. is also one of Roger's colleagues from work, so there are various other colleagues there as well as neighbors. It's always a great evening and I have to admit his champagne generally fares pretty well against the others. Also, the consensus is often in favor of the cheaper champagnes as opposed to the big names - I guess we're not real connoisseurs! They have the party outside on their deck and in the garden, and they were really lucky this evening, as we had a fairly heavy shower go through around 6 pm, but then it cleared out and made a lovely evening. Anyway, all in all, a great day!
