Our life in the Borders

Tweedgreen

We spent the morning at a planning meeting for Tweedgreen - the Tweeddale sustainability initiative. Lots of good ideas, but as always when organisations begin to grow, there are decisions to take about organisational directions. Do we take the Government shilling, but inevitably compromise to some extent, or do we stick to unfettered principles, but no money?

I think you need some money and some paid staff. Principles are cheap - but real practical action is needed, even at the cost of some compromise.

It was a shame to be in on such a beautiful day - so afterwards we wandered along the real Tweed Green. I recently read some local history, and this area, on the river bank, has been common land for many centuries. There is a comfort in continuity.
