Sleepy swan

This swan was fast asleep in a nearby schoolyard in Aurora at 1pm. The lighting makes it look like it's near sunset but it was pretty dark today. We will sometimes see one in the schoolyard behind us but never in the busier part of town. We get trumpeter swans coming through here. Tundra swans will pass through about 150-200 kms west of us near London.

I looked for a wing tag but didn't see one. They are big and yellow and I'll report them to the wildlife centre when I see them so they can track their progress and travels. They will return with a message about the bird's history if you want to know about it.

I kept my distance. The poor thing must have been exhausted to stop in a conspicuous place. It's been very windy and some snow flurries. The weather fouled our plans to go to Waterloo today. The roads were too dodgy so we'll go another time. We just did some errands around town. Linda is posting a photo of some 30 mourning doves taking shelter from the gusty winds. About 13 are on the fence, another 14 on the stacked chairs, and a few each on the metal arbor and on the sumac tree.
