Surprise View

On the main road between Sheffield and Hathersage comes a sharp bend in the road, beyond which the view opens up along the Derwent Valley. The name of Surprise View speaks for itself, although even for regulars who know what's coming, there is still often an unexpected element when light or weather conditions mean that the view is even more spectacular. Today was one such day, where the mist in the valley combined with the patchy snow from yesterday's showers made it difficult to tell the land from the clouds and mist. A quick couple of shots from the car window don't really do it full justice, but still, here's a flavour of what we saw.
My friend Jill came round and took me out for a thoroughly wonderful jaunt: a lovely drive, followed by a little wander round the David Mellor kitchen shop in Hathersage, a very acceptable lunch and a short stroll into the countryside behind the village.
Later, Pete cooked me an excellent Sunday tea. All in all, a very fine day!
Another view towards Win Hill can be seen here.
