Help is There

Tonight I attended the first Social Evening of 2012 of Swansea Grand Theare's Theatre Club and tonight we were given a talk by Phil Thomas.

Phil works in the children's hospice here in Wales called Ty Hafan and we received an excellent talk about the history of the hospice and how much the hospice helps many families through what is clearly a very difficult time.

Obviously, every child is unique and working with families and care professionals, they assess the child's individual needs and create a comprehensive care package. Their care includes the management of physical symptoms and the provision of emotional, social, spiritual and practical support for the whole family, with the main aim of improving quality of life.

T? Hafan is not part of the health service and in 2010-11 it received just 13% statutory funding towards more than £3 million needed to provide care and support to life-limited families in Wales. To continue to offer its unique service to families, it relies on the generosity of the public, its corporate sponsors and volunteers, as well as T? Hafan's own commercial activities such as its lottery and shops.
