Sunset on Great End

Have had to back blip this photo as we didn't get back until very late.

Got up very early to get ourselves over to the Lakes for a spot of Ice Climbing up Central Gully which leads up to the top of Great End. Is quite a well known climb and is meant to be pretty challenging.

We've only just started out on the whole Ice Climbing thing having been inspired to see what all the fuss is about when we saw the north face of Ben Nevis a little while ago.

It proved to be a really nice walk up, the weather was absolutely amazing. Not a cloud in the sky, the sun shining but cold enough to have plenty of snow and ice.

The actual Gully is pretty imposing, splitting the fell in two, it demands your attention.

We've always been ones to air on the side of caution. The Mountain Rescue sites are always filled with details of people that haven't put the right precautions in place and in so doing have ended up stuck/injured/worse, and keeping in mind we have only started out doing this we thought ropes were the way forward???.

We were proved right.

The shot is of us three having conquered the gully. I can't describe to you what an amazing sight it was going over the crest to see a sweeping vista of fells shrouded in front of a burning sunset. It was quite simply one of the most beautiful in awe inspiring moments of my life.

The shot was taken on a timer, enabling me to leg it over and get into the shot. Too my utter joy it turned out so perfect that I have barely had to touch it.

It is what it was??.

One phenomenal moment.
