Tromso - last day in the Arctic!

We docked at midnight last night after another display of the magical lights. There was a bit too much light pollution on deck for good pictures but it was fabulous to see them on our last night.

We disembarqued and headed straight for a midnight concert in the Cathedral of the Arctic. It was a wonderful experience of haunting Norwegian folk music and some Grieg. There was just a horn player, soprano and a pianist/ organist in a superb setting.
They started the programme in the organ loft behind us here

We spent the rest of the night in a quayside hotel and woke to a rather dull day compared to our previous ones. We took the cable car to Salen the hill above Tromso where it is clear that Tromso is set on a island and has overspilled onto the mainland. It is in a magnificent setting as you can see. The Arctic Cathedral is the white building in the foreground just over the bridge.

The temperature was about -5 but much colder with the wind chill. The complaint from our guide was that Norway hasn't had enough snow this year and therefore the skiing hasn't been good. ( Snow usually starts in August this far north! )What is there is frozen and dangerous so they are hoping for a heavy fall soon.
