Mrs Talpa's medal

Sixty years ago Mrs Talpa and I learned, at our primary school assemblies, of the death of King George, and the news that that we had a new queen.

This morning Mrs Talpa, a keen royalist, started her year of celebration by digging out her souvenir programme of the the Queen's Coronation and the Coronation Medal that she and all the other school children in Aberdeenshire had received from their education authority. Us Yorkshire lads and lasses had received nowt back in 1953 and so this morning I had nowt to dig out!
