A time for everything

Jeremiah Morrow Bridge

Sunday
I guess I'm on a bridge theme this weekend! Roger got up at some ungodly hour to be downtown for the start of the Morning Glory Bike ride at 4.30 am! It consisted of a 15-mile loop around part of Cincinnati, with an optional 10-mile extension into Kentucky and along the river. He went for the full 25 miles. At the end they served them with a full breakfast, and he was still home in time to shower and be at church for first service at 9 am!

After church we went canoeing on the Little Miami River together with Laura and her friend Becca. Becca had already run a 10k earlier in the morning! Anyway we opted to do the 12 mile route. There are also 3 mile, 6 mile and a couple of longer ones. I think the ideal distance would be 9 miles, but that isnt an option! It was another glorious day - the humidity is still relatively low and that makes all the difference. We stopped a couple of times, once for a picnic and a couple of times to swim and cool off. The reflections in the water were wonderful and we saw quite a number of turtles, including a really tiny one, on logs at the side of the river, and quite a number of birds, including what I guess was a heron flying overhead. Towards the end of the stretch you pass under this pair of bridges which carries the I-71 239 feet (73 m) above the river valley, making them the tallest bridges in Ohio. You cant really appreciate it from the picture, but the bridges are also approximately 2300 ft (700m) in length, making them two of the longest interstate bridges in the state.

All together a great weekend. Hope yours was too!
