Citadel Wall

When we woke up this morning it was raining, so we decided to change islands. We went to Gozo. Sadly, they were doing rubbish weather there too.

However, between large amounts of rainfall there were very nice bits. A walk round the old citadel was very interesting - lots of dilapidated bits, lots of semi restored bits, a really high city wall walk made even more interesting by gusting winds and lots of examples of weathered stone.

I like the old stone here, it has a really beautiful colour. The sort of colour that, if you were on QI and called it "honey" - lots of klaxons would sound and Stephen Fry would chide you gently for falling into such an obvious trap.

Other good bits today included the ferry to Gozo - the ship was moving around in a manner that Wee Macgreegor* would have described as "whummel'n". Quite exciting and surprising as we sat outside and enjoyed sunshine and no wind as the ship pitched and rolled. I was put in mind of the story of Symon & the Greek Salad...

Symon tells it better but it involves a ferry crossing, a free buffet with a delicious Greek Salad, a sudden squall and the reappearance of the free buffet with not so delicious Greek Salad which proceeded to adhere to Symon's beard with Velcro like tenacity.

*Wee Macgreegor was the creation of JJ Bell. I think the stories are really funny. Set around 1905-ish in Glasgow/West of Scotland, lots of fun to be found there.
