Dundas Castle

In 1416, James Dundas obtained a license to build a keep from the first Duke of Albany, with an extension granted in 1436. It was primarily a defensive refuge.

This is the 15th century building. The main castle - a place of some magnificence - was built in the 19th century.

Oliver Cromwell is known to have stayed at Dundas Castle around the time of the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. He sent a note of appreciation afterwards. Obviously well brought up.

I've just dropped off #2 daughter who is going to a wedding there. She is here for the day from Italy - arrived at ten past midnight this morning, leaves at 8:30 tomorrow.
