Grin and tonic

It's Friday night - and meetings in Palmerston Place from 9.30 to 12.30, quick lunch with my friend Jack from Glasgow who happened to be working just round the corner, and meeting again from 2 to 4. Was ambushed then by colleagues who had just been on a two day training course in NVivo - which seems to be the software solution to the mystery of life - or at least of qualitative data analysis. And finally was able to give D a lift home.

All this I offer as justification for this blip -carefully composed but once you've mixed a gin and tonic you can't separate it and put it back in the bottles.

G and T was introduced by the army of the British East India Company in India.

Tonic water contains quinine, which was used to prevent malaria. In the 18th century, tonic water contained a large amount of quinine, which caused it to have a very bitter taste. Gin was added to make it more palatable. What a wonderful excuse.

I have never had malaria - so it must work!
