The mask is a reminder that carnaval time is almost here.
February in the northern hemisphere doth not Rio make. But hey... there'll be fun, fancy-dress and 'frixuelos' (pancakes).
Known in Gijon as 'Antroxu', the celebrations start Friday and finish the following Tuesday.
The final act is the 'solemn' burial of a sardine!! Its funeral cortege will doubtless be accompanied by the usual cohort of 'distraught' mourners.
