Hill Climb

Today was the first event of the season for Barrow Central Wheelers.

It was a hill climb on the "Kikby Slate Road".
The road leads up onto the moor and the back of the old slate quarries above the village.

The road attacks the moor from the other side to us and starts off as a metalled road, but the surface deteriorates in quality the higher one goes.

This event is only suitable for mountain bikes, cyclocross bikes or more rugged road bikes.

The club runs a series of Hill Climb and Time Trial events throughout the season.
The remainder of the seasons events will be on better surfaces than this one.

The rider in this shot is Anne Plant. She rides for Team Wheelbase and has won the Master's World Championships Road Race a couple of times.

She regularly rides the events put on by BCW.

I need to get out on my bike before I start competing again.
