The Jews arguably invented history. Before them it was assumed everything went in cycles. There would be no point recording anything because it would all happen again in the future.

The Jews said no, the story is going somewhere. It needs to be remembered and told, so that we know who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going.

I'd rather be going somewhere, than round in circles.
