One daze at a time...

The big aluminium tube in the sky

Welcome on board.

You finally made it into the big aluminium tube.
It took a wake up call at an ungodly hour, the stress of wondering if the taxi will come on time, the stress of wondering if the lunatic driving it is actually able to drive after a coffee (and class A drugs?) -fuelled 14 hour shift, the check-in desk with the sleepy/grumpy check in agent, the trip to the ticket desk for the 2 kilo weight surcharge with the sleepy/ratty ticket desk agent, the long minutes of queuing towards the security gates, with the sleepy/ignorant security agents, wondering all the time if you will make your flight even though you've made it to the airport at 5.00am for a 6.50am departure, the taking off your belt, shoes, watch, gold teeth before going through the gate, the rebelting, reshoeing, reinsertion of gold teeth and the rush to the gate...

You wanted glamour and jetset, you've got it.
Ah, the thrill of (recycled) air travel (one fresh puff reheated through the engines every 45 minutes or 450 miles, whichever comes first).
