Peace Bell

The World Peace Bell Association in Tokyo gifted New Zealand's only peace bell to Christchurch in 2005. The first peace bell was installed at the United Nations in 1954.

Each bell is made from coins and medals donated by 103 countries, which have been mixed with copper, is a symbol of peace and gives an impression that the world is one. The aim is to install World Peace Bells around the globe. The Bell and its pavilion were unveiled on October 3, 2006 and is situated in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens.

Mum and I had a full day at the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. The sun was shining, families with young and old were out, young couples were lazing in the sun, buskers were busking under the shade of the old trees while others were enjoying the beauty of the Avon river by punt, canoe or row boat. It was a great day out for both of us as we casually took in the Festival of Flowers and watched a film crew in the rose gardens - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

I have always been interested in the Peace Bell, the making of it and the unveiling of it - it felt right to blip it today.

Feeling quite tired after being out in the hot sun and gentle breeze, the endless sleepless nights are starting to take a toll. Sorry I haven't been on blip so much the last few days, my energy levels are low - hopefully I will be back soon.

Hope your all having a fab weekend :)
