Scapa Flow

I had intended to take some close up pics today (dry stane dykes, sheep... that kind of thing) but it is such an amazing day that the big picture demanded to be shown.

Gorgeous Spring day, sunny with a wee nip in the air. Went over to the West side of Burray to be get a view over Scapa Flow and was delighted to see a dusting of snow on the Hoy hills. This is pretty much all the snow we've had this winter, hope if there is more to come it happens soon. (Sorry weather again!!)

I always think that it's easy to imagine a few viking longships gliding over the Flow. It's not hard to see why this safe haven appealed to those travelling the viking trading route from Norway to Dublin and beyond. Or why they decided to have a quiet word with the locals and move in.
