Airthrey Castle- Stirling University Law School

I walked around Airthrey loch this afternoon hoping to photograph some wildlife but the light was so poor that I ended up instead with this photo of Airthrey Castle, now the site of Stirling University Law School.

In a 2009 National Student Survey this Law School was placed 4th equal in the UK, along with Cambridge University, for student satisfaction. Current students highlight excellent teaching, support from and enthusiasm of the staff and being part of a small friendly law school as some of the factors which they particularly like about Stirling.

Built in the late 18th century it was designed by the eminent architect Robert Adam for the Haldane family.

During the Second World War it became a maternity hospital and was used as such until 1969.
Then in the 1960s, as a result of the Robbins Report, the estate was selected as the site of the first completely new Scottish University since the University of Edinburgh was established in 1582.

The University of Stirling opened in 1967 and the campus , set in 60 acres of woodland and 300 acres of mature landscaped parkland, around an artificial loch, is regarded as one of the most beautiful in Europe.
