The Bridge over the North Atlantic

My little guide book (admittedly the one produced by Faroe Islands Tourism) asserts that this is the "only bridge over the North Atlantic". I'm sure I've seen other bridges described as this - and I've always been a little skeptical at the claims.

This particular bridge crosses Sundini and links the islands of Eysturoy and Streymoy. It was built as part of a programme of improving communications around and between the islands by building lots of bridges and tunnels. All the bigger islands now have fixed links, and the boats are relegated to servicing the more remote islands.

The picture is taken from the Eysturoy side of the water, looking SW to the hills on Streymoy. You can pick out a few of the many waterfalls on the far side of the water - these were full with both melt-water from the rapidly disappearing snow and the recent rain. The strong blustery winds were also ensuring that at times the water in the waterfalls was going up rather than down.

UPDATE: Wikipedia identifies three 'bridges over the Atlantic' - but one is a tunnel so I don't think that counts.
