Tjørnuvík

I decided against crossing the Atlantic again today (see yesterdays entry), but went to the northern end of Streymoy. The little village of Tjørnuvík sits in a mountain bowl facing NE across the mouth of Sundini to the northwest corner of Eysturoy and to the sea stacks of Risin and Kellingin

For many years this little village was only reachable by boat, even the footpath from the neighbouring village was pretty hazardous. Eventually a single track road was carved out of the cliff-face allowing the residents of Tjørnuvík to get access to the rest of the island. The drive is dramatic, and you certainly feel as if you've reached the end of the island.
