10 Cent Tunnel Ride

-backblip-

This is a closeup look at the automated can return at the supermarket. Each carbonated beverage container in our state has a 10 cent deposit on it. You want your dime back, you have to return the can or bottle to the store. Sometimes it's a pain the neck, but it has done a lot to curb litter in the state since the deposit law went into effect back in the 70's. It used to be you'd hand you returnable to a human who's count and sort them. Now at most stores these automated units count, sort and consolidate (crush) the incoming containers. I find it hard to believe that only 10 states currently have a "Bottle bill" on the books.
