Carl and I had been invited to a neighbour of his for an evening meal. I got over to his place at 3:30 (we'd been told we;d be eating early, and there was a plan to go in to town afterwards). Our host is notorious as a poor timekeeper and even worse respecter of arrangements, so we weren't to surprised when he texted to say going to town wouldn't now happen, and that we'd be eating later than originally intended.

So Carl and I went to Fitzgerald's pub in Sandycove for a pint or too. We'd spurned the Eagles in Glasthule on the way because all its many, many TVs were blaring football all over the place, away from which we ran. Unusually, Fitzgerald's also had TVs on and lots of punters were cheering and shouting. I say 'unusually', because this pub is more usually associated with rugby than football. Because of its closeness to the Martello tower which features in the first chapter of James Joyce's Ulysses, Fitzgerald's is heavily themed around Joyce, including this fine sculptural piece behind the bar. I was amused by the way Jimmy had been dolled up, and couldn't resist grabbing a quick blip. [Note: It's the pub that has the date wrong, not Dublin Shooter's camera.]

We had a lovely bite to eat afterwards, and finished the night with a deep discussion around the dining table, details of which are rather hazy.
