Raft Life...

face washing in fish guts river water.

On day 1, we loaded our back packs, bunches of vegetables, bags of rice, packs of meat, and trays of eggs, and jugs of drinking water onto these two house rafts. For the next 3 days, we did everything from this boat.

It was great family time for all the students at the dorm...enforced fun time together, swimming lessons, Bible study, Phase 10 card game (thank you Grandma!), group team-building activities, eating, worship, picking eatable plants, catching frogs for dinner, and playing football/soccer and some version of American football using the soccer ball on shore.

It happened that two birthdays were celebrated on the raft too. One birthday boy got tossed into the water on the morning of his special day. The other fell in accidentally when the ramp, a single board tied with rope between the two rafts, shifted.

Cooking, dish washing, bathing, water games and fishing all took place in the water around us. I was skeptical at first, but it worked out great. (Just don't think too much about the fact that we used the same water to wash dishes as we brushed our teeth in, bathed and cleaned the fish in...the water is flowing down the river right, which means it's clean right? ...except for the people doing the same thing upriver from us. Oh well!)
