Urangan Pier, Hervey Bay

The pier at Hervey Bay used to support trains carrying sugar, timber and coal to and from ships in the deeper waters, 1107 metres out to sea. It was closed in 1985, and 239 metres of it was demolished - but public outcry saw the demolition work halted, and 868 metres of the pier was left intact. Hard to believe what politicians sometimes think of as good ideas.
