The Big Crab, Miriam Vale, QLD

The Bruce Highway in Queensland and northern New South Wales in the 1970s was the setting for a peculiar mania - making big fibreglass things to distinguish your shop/service station from all the others on the road. There was the Big Banana, the Big Cow, the Big Avocado and the Big Pineapple. This was the first time I'd seen the Big Crab at Miriam Vale, near Gladstone, even though I've passed it a few times. Guess it wasn't quite big enough. I must admit, I had to stop and get a fridge magnet.
