Womens Self Help Group

This is part of the womens SHG in Salisbury Line, at their weekly meeting.
The meet once a week to save, make Loan repayments and borrow.
Firstly you can't comprehend how poor they were and then you can't imagine how well they have done, since their formation last August.
By saving small amounts like 10 pence per week to begin, they now have a loan book of over 1000 pounds. They borrow small amounts , do some business like buying and selling, pay 20% on their borrowings (even for as little as a week!).
All rules and regulations for the group are their own. Only the training and support comes from outside. The money is all their own.
This is a real bottom-up development and we are working with over 40 such groups.
These are women on the move, finding their voice and empowering themselves as they go. They ask us for specific help in the area of community development and after discussions we move forward together.
This is sisters doing it for each other. The sisters we have heard so much about ,often only did it for themselves!!
