Heather Fires.

M and I had a bit of a fail today; although it was a nice kind of fail :) We were going to be camping, but couldn't think where to go: although it's super-warm here - t-shirt weather - it's still February, so there are no actual campsites open. We decided we'd go to Banchory woods, so we drove out along the Dee and decided we'd go fishing for trout at the fishery in Raemoir. It was my first time giving fly fishing a proper shot, and I think I got on quite well. I certainly enjoyed it anyway! We didn't catch a thing, but a nice 3 hours spent in the sunshine surrounded by some beautiful scenery.

We went to lunch at the Milton of Crathes and had some wonderful food, which we then decided to walk off up Scolty hill. As we reached the top of the hill, we could smell smoke and from the top could see a fine blue haze hanging in the valleys from the heather burning. We sat at the top and had a cheeky bottle of beer watching dusk fall. Our plan had been to camp in the woods at the bottom, but upon returning we couldn't actually find a decent site.... We had really left it a bit late having too much fun during the day! We decided just to head home and camp in the living room for the evening, and we had some lovely leftover curry for tea and watched High Fidelity on Netflix. It may not have been camping, but it was a damn good Sunday!
