Ian's learning curve

Play time!

Today was 'uplift' day.

Today we (Rob, Davy, Chris, myself and Hope) spent the day riding the downhill mountain bike courses at Innerleithen.

FANTASTIC!

Now, DH mountain biking should not be confused with cross country mountain biking (which is extremely difficult and demanding in itself). This is a little different where participants have bikes that look more like motorbikes without engines, wear full body Armour and full face helmets, are required to ride the bikes down terrain often too steep to walk, usually over rocks, roots and big jumps or drops (with anything from 4ft to 10ft vertical drop) and at speeds I would rather not talk about.

FANTASTIC!

Driving home, I started to ponder why 5 individuals such as us with family's (and teenage children), commitments and responsibilities choose to spend our hard won free time by placing ourselves in obvious risk by riding such steep, rocky, rooty and muddy hills on a mountain bike?

Insanity?

No.

It's an overused cliche - however, it is often said that sometimes you feel most alive when taking a risk.

TODAY WE FELT TRULY ALIVE............
