Fresh

I have gone on and on about how fresh the food is in Zihua. We shop the mercado a couple of times a week to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables and a couple of times a month for fish. Today at the beach, however, freshness was taken to a new level. The scene pictured here is just south of where we play volleyball. José, one of the beach vendors who works near the court, took his net and went fishing in the surf. What he caught, a surprisingly large amount considering what I have seen others catch, was brought up on the sand, a plastic table appeared, and tiritas (fresh fish "cooked" in lime juice) were soon in progress, just steps from where the fish were swimming moments ago.
