A pretty windy day but dry. Spotted this form by the Caledonian Canal at Dochgarroch. Somebody must have cobbled it together. In warmer weather be nice to sit on it and just watch the boats go by as they enter and leave the locks. The locks at Dochgarroch just take boats from the the level of Loch Dochfour (which leads through a narrow passage to Loch Ness) to a slightly lower level. The canal then goes about 4 miles to Muirtown on the the outskirts of Inverness where a stair takes the level down to that of the Muirtown Basin and the sea lock. Just beyond Dochgarroch going towards Loch Dochfour is a weir built by that Thomas Telford (who else?) and water spills over it to form the Ness river. It follows the canal for quite a distance but at an increasingly lower level. Canal and river part company as they approach Inverness.
