Cardamon and Mace

"With a cargo of ivory,
And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood and sweet white wine"

Did anyone else have to learn, by heart, John Masefield's poem "Cargoes" when they were at school?

I was always carried away with the thought of all the exotic things in this poem: smells, sights and tastes unknown, the stuff of childhood dreams!

The smell of these fresh spices is wonderful: the cardamon was bought from the spice market in Old Delhi; and the mace bought later in the lovely town of Bundi.

I have back blipped 27 February, Jaipur.
