Crane Fly

Several different crane flies come into my kitchen, ranging from huge to tiny. Most are medium sized like this one I found out on the sage bush. I don't often see them outside because they hide among leaves. The giant crane fly is quite spectacular, with legs 6 or 7 cms long (about 2.5 inches). It is an amazing sight in flight, seemingly clumsy with its long legs flailing about.

New Zealand has more than 500 different crane flies. I have no idea which this one is.
