Last chance to see - Christchurch Cathedral

Today we went to have our "last chance to see" the cathedral, before it is "deconstructed" i.e demolished. it has already been deconsecrated.

Along with literally thousands of others, we walked down the wire netted path into Cathedral Square for the last time, looking left and right and discussing "what was on that empty space".

Being a glass half full person - well mostly, I can see a huge opportunity to build something uniquely New Zealand, rather than a copy of an English cathedral, but I understand that for some it is a tragedy that this building has to come down.

There is huge controversy about whether it could be saved, but the church itself, and you'd think they had the most vested interest of all, has chosen to demolish, on the advice of their experts.

It would be fair to say that no one my age would have been able to conceive of the cathedral not being there all their lifetime, but with so many huge life changes it's just another one to add to an ever lengthening list.
