Blossom Petals

Blossom petals on the ground lie
Exhaled by the tree as in a sigh
They've played their part in this Spring game
Attracting bees, others, just the same
As those before that fell away last year
And those that preceded each year, before
Their tree stands as memorial to someone passed
Another for whom the dice was too early cast
His number fell at too early an hour
And made this earth a little more poor
I look up to the blossom awaiting their turn
And think of his loved ones who must yearn
To be blown like petals to heaven for a day
To see him, to hold him, words to him say
How they so miss him, how they love him still
They will think of him constantly, constantly until
Finally, on heaven's rich soil they land
Where blossom petals lie on the ground
