A Year Through My Eyes

Colombo bound

29.03.12

And so our tour is drawing to a close.  We started our day at a turtle hatchery where they rescue turtle eggs and allow them to hatch in captivity. Here they are held for approx 4 days after hatching to help raise the chances of survival when released into the wild. Some rarer breeds are held longer so that the odds in theory raise survival wise, but the problem is that by keeping them longer getting them stronger it's not encouraging them to hunt for themselves or survive in the surf. Not entirely sure how much they are helping at the end of the day but I'm no turtle expert.

We then ventured back into Galle, for a gentle stroll around the fort we went over yesterday and this allowed a little time for our cricket enthusiast to catch a couple of overs from the fort walls.  From this point on, we are on route for the capital Colombo using the new highway (first motorway all trip) cutting the journey from 3hours down to 1!

Once we reached Colombo we were whisked past all the grand sights (which  comprise of a lot of gov buildings, hotels, Banks and embassy's) mixes from rags to riches within one  corner!  We reached our final stop which was a couple of km south (very unhelpful for those on early flights as the Airport is the opposite side of the city.

We finished off with a meal at a 5* hotel close by very grand, felt massively under dressed! Food was great, as was the company! Lovely end to the tour.  One and a bit more days left for me in Sri Lanka remaining.

This blip was going to be of the group at dinner, but on route to the hotel restaurant we took at tot tot in a thunder storm, and it broke down in the middle of a massively busy road......this was taken just before he broke down.
