Coalbrookdale 1882

This is one of the lights along the Victoria Embankment.

According to sources on the Internet (where would we blippers be without it) the Victoria Embankment was the first part of London to be illuminated by electric light.

The Dolphin Lampstandards were made in Coalbrookdale, as were the gates of Hyde Park.

Coalbrookdale is a village in the Ironbridge Gorge in Shropshire, England, and it is very significant in the history of iron ore smelting. This is where iron ore was first smelted by Abraham Darby using easily mined "coking coal". The coal was drawn from drift mines in the sides of the valley. As it contained far fewer impurities than normal coal, the iron it produced was of a superior quality

This particular one is outside The City of London School, taken in my usual low down position. As I'm in a suit I must look strange but I'm too intent on the view in the screen to notice
