Day 3 - Gull Rock

After yesterday's late rain there was a break in the cloudy weather around 4pm and I took a trip to the beach to try and get some usage out of the camera equipment I had put so much effort into bringing. I tried out the new gorilla pod and it worked reasonable well enough as a tripod but there wasn't much to try clinging it to so I still have to try that out. 75-205mm zoom with matched 2x converter (upped to a mighty 820mm by the time you take into account the micro four-thirds factor) was a bit unwieldy, especially as it is attached to the E-P1 with a PK-MFT adapter. The pictures seemed fine, though it was hard to tell at the time as the Sun was so damned bright. This however is the standard lens with two neutral density (2-stop and 3-stop) filters and a neutral density grad as well supported on sand with the gorilla pod.

I was up really early today as we'd ended up in bed quite sharp last night. I played around with popcorn.js for a while before heading out for a stroll at around 8am. It was still cloudy after yesterday and by 9 it was still only 11 degrees.

After I got back we drove out to Guia to go to the big mall as it is both indoors and I desperately need some trousers if the weather is not going to improve (thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow). As a surprise we had a beefburger with foié gras and red onion reduction for lunch at the food court before driving back, the rain coming again as we approached Portimao.

After the trip to the beach there was a lot of cooking again, pork tenderloin with vina d'alho sauce, the dish that gave birth to vindaloo in Portuguese Goa. Very garlicky, very winey but very nice. Rice to go with it and somehow we managed to make refried beans and guacamole too, though we left the beans for another day. There was an awful lot of dishes to be washed afterwards, which even required moving the microwave to make space.

Spent an evening in the bar playing darts and pool, drinking beirao and coffee before heading upstairs to get royally twatted, retiring somewhere around 3am.
