Why did I come in here?

Dafft innit?

Cornwall has a huge daffodil growing acreage, but apparently not as much as prior to WW2, (don't mention the war - I think I got away with it).

Apparently the reason all the verges and ancient stone walls are also full of daffs goes back to the period during the war when every scrap of ground was used for the cultivation of food. Consequently farmers simply ploughed up the bulbs, dropped the soil over the other side of the hedges and Robert is your Mother's brother. Empty fields for ploughing, pretty lanes in the spring.

The migrant workers who pick these crops earn their pay. It's hard, cold work mostly, especially difficult after rain.
