My Life Is Not Average

Teenager

My last day of being a teenager.

Since I was about eight, I've wanted to be treated like an adult, or at least feel that I could hold an intelligent conversation with an adult. It's not that I didn't like being a kid - I loved it! - but I saw adults as equals and didn't like being patronised.

I think in our society today, we treat people like kids for too long. The teenager has unhealthy stereotypes, and teens get away with acting like toddlers sometimes. Teens are capable of so much more than is often expected of them, and it's so important for young people to realise this.

I will be glad to be 20, even if only to show I have used my teenage years to thrive and not just survive.
