The Pilgrim

Pilgrim BM45
Prior to dining at The Market Café in Brixham we went for a walk round the harbour. Pilgrim BM45 is the oldest surviving Brixham built and rigged sailing trawler, built in 1895.She trawled in Brixham until 1912 when she was sold to Lowestoft and then on again to Sweden. She was sold several times there and was rediscovered in 1999, and brought home. Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and others she has been restored to her former Victorian glory. She will undertake sailing trials soon. On this evening she looked majestic, a real beauty, symbolising how important this fishing port was in the 1800s when it was the 'Mother of Deep Sea Fisheries'.
