Keeping with last year's tradition (check out my Blip from just over a year ago), my sister and I went to visit a castle!
Crichton Castle, once owned by Mary Queen of Scot's third husband, the fourth Earl of Bothwell, is near Pathhead, South of Edinburgh. It's pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and I don't imagine it gets very many visitors because you have to walk along a muddy track to get there!
The studded wall - inspired by examples in Southern Europe - is the only example of its kind in Northern Europe. There's a lot of detailed stonework around the castle, which is pretty impressive seeing as it wasn't a royal castle.
If you ever want to visit, dress warmly - it was freezing! It's also not open during the winter months.
After visiting the castle, my sister and I went to Haddington and had haggis rolls for lunch (again, like last year!) before looking in a couple of shops.
