Flamingos Get Together

Today the wind mostly spared us--it was sunny with some clouds, and warm enough. We arrived at the Parc Ornithologique to our south and not far from the Mediterranean. It's a relatively compact reserve with a good variety of birds easily seen--above all flamingos. There are a few local birds in large outdoor cages*--most interesting are the raptors, including eagle owls. The park is very popular, but in our experience never crowded.

It was obviously that time of year for the flamingos. We saw pairs everywhere outside the large groups--(the females are clearly smaller than the males. And quite a number got together :)

The full name of the reserve (which photographers are urged to use) is: Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Gau (Camargue). We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Camargue--especially birders.

*As always in any properly managed nature park, the caged birds have been injured outside, and could not survive if released.
