Golden Jubilee Bridge

Have been away for a few days over the weekend in London wth the family so am catching up on my blips.

Didn't get anything on Saturday but was concentrating on keeping the boys happy in the miserable weather. We did Greenwich Observatory which is well worth a visit. We saw the new planetarium (only its second day) and that was really quite awesome with the new techonology. They guy doing the presentation really was first class as were the other presenters around the building. It was really quite busy so am struggling to find something to blip - I might just put one up to fill in the blank.

This was taken Sunday - the forecast was variable at best. We'd already booked to do the London Eye on a queue-busting ticket (based on last years masive queues...). We arrived early and the queues not that long, but within 15 minutes were 100m long.

Once on, despite the gloom, we got some great views - quite an experience. At over 400 feet hight, its quite a drop which impressed the boys, but, its less than half the height of Emley Moor tower (near Wakefield) which I got to go up last year. That's some 865 feet up to the gallery. Well spectacular (if somewhat rickety and thought providing ride in the lift - taking 9 minutes!) and only a very few people get to see it from the top.

Having been on the Eye we crossed back over the river on one of the Golden Jubilee Bridges. There's one each side of the railway bridge into Charring Cross station. Each is 320m long. From here onto the museums for the rest of the day - Science museum for Jonathan and Natural History for Jamie.
