Trinity College, Dublin

Whirlwind trip to Dublin Day 1:

LHRH flew out early to Dublin for a whistlestop holiday. Spent the morning exploring the city and seeing the sites. LH was quite excited to see the Book of Kells and dragged RH into a tour of Trinity College. The University is amazingly central to the city, located just beside the Liffey off the main shopping area. The college buildings are architecturally stunning and the history of the site very interesting. The Book of Kells didn't disappoint either, although it really was far too busy to spend any proper time studying it or reading in the exhibition.

The National Museum of Ireland too was really interesting. The 'Celtic Tiger' led to a huge upsurge in construction in Ireland and indeed the citycentre seems to either consist of new buildings or renovated buildings. One unplanned side effect was the tremendous boost to archaeology in Ireland. Indeed when LH graduated it was widely known a budding archaeologist was guaranteed work in Eire. LH never followed this route, but the displays of treasures discovered during developments shows what he missed. RH particularly liked the bog bodies. A little bit eerie.

At night we found a wee gem of a bistro for a delicious dinner followed by beer and cider in the Temple Bar. All in all a cracking day.
